The main Dining Room at The Ahwahnee will be temporarily closed until August. We are serving meals daily from the Winter Club room and Great Lounge. This closure is necessary to complete seismic upgrades to the historic building and a refurbishment of the kitchen floor. The immense scale of this project means some repairs will continue into the remainder of the year. Hotel rooms will not be affected at this time, but guests can expect the dining experience to look vastly different than previous years. Learn more at our Frequently Asked Questions page > This project, referred to as The Ahwahnee Comprehensive Rehabilitation Plan, is history in the making. The refurbishment will improve the functionality of our hotel kitchen and Dining Room, and retrofitting to create seismic stability is about ensuring the safety and stability of this historic property. Since opening in 1927, improvements and upgrades have remained integral to The Ahwahnee’s history. In the early 1930’s, when it was discovered the trusses in the Dining Room were not strong enough to support heavy winter snowpack, the beams were re-enforced to protect the space. This is one example of the many ways The Ahwahnee adapts to remain the crown jewel of national park lodging. Services are operating unlike they have in the past. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style and seating will be in the Great Lounge, running at a smaller capacity. As we undergo renovations, the Dining Room will be inaccessible to the public. Dining is operating out of a temporary kitchen unit, located on the West Terrace. |
Please review current revised services.
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is a destination dining spot that evokes a feeling of grandness and opulence. Please note there is no access to the Dining Room during the refurbishment project. We are pleased to offer a virtual walkthrough of the iconic Dining Room here.
