The Ultimate Half Dome Adventure
Take on the ultimate challenge with this guided Half Dome hike. This exhilarating climb rises nearly one mile above Yosemite Valley, offering breathtaking views and an unforgettable sense of accomplishment. Perfect for exceptionally fit and experienced hikers, this guided adventure combines thrilling challenges with expert support to ensure a safe and unforgettable journey. Conquer Yosemite's most iconic peak and create memories that will last a lifetime!
About the Hike
This 16-mile, 12-hour round-trip hike ascends 4,800 feet, including a climb up Half Dome's sheer granite face with the aid of installed cables. While thrilling and challenging, our experienced guides—trained in first aid and CPR—will help you navigate the trail and conquer any fear of heights. Along the way, they'll share unparalleled knowledge about Half Dome, ensuring a safe and inspiring journey to the top.
Half Dome Cables
Summiting Half Dome is a true feat, with the challenging cables being the most demanding part. These metal railings with wooden planks for traction allow fit and experienced hikers to complete the 16-mile round-trip in about 12 hours. Inexperienced hikers or those with a fear of heights should avoid this climb. Cables are typically up from Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day but always check weather conditions and avoid hiking if the ground is wet or rain is forecasted. A permit from the National Park Service is required and will be checked by a ranger at the cable approach.
Half Dome Permits
The National Park Service requires all Half Dome day-hikers (even those being led by Yosemite Mountaineering School guides—and the guides themselves) to obtain and carry a special Half Dome permit.
The Yosemite Mountaineering School does not have Half Dome Cables permits available. If you already have permits for your group, contact The Mountaineering School at yms@aramark.com to find out if we are able to get a permit for one of our guides to accompany you.
